Overview

ValueScreener helps individual investors who research and pick their own stocks. It provides a stock screener to find companies meeting your criteria, research tools to understand each company by comparing it against peers and its own filing history, and a portfolio tracker that treats your holdings as one business rather than isolated ideas. The core differentiator is the nightly re-testing of your investment thesis: you write down the reasons you own each company and the numbers that must stay true, and ValueScreener checks those guardrails every night at 23:30 UTC against newly filed accounts. When nothing breaks you hear nothing; when one of your reasons fails, you receive one email with the arithmetic and the filing.
All figures are sourced to their origin: filed statements with their formula and filing date, or market data with its date. The product includes free access to screen the US market, research individual companies, and use calculators and lessons. Paid plans add portfolio tracking, saved valuations and detailed research (Serious at $29/month), and thesis monitoring with nightly alerts and integrations like Excel add-ins and Claude connector (Professional at $99/month). The product explicitly refuses to give investment advice, buy or sell recommendations, or fair value targets.

Q&A
- What does ValueScreener actually do?
- ValueScreener shows each figure with its source (filed figures with formulas and filing dates, or market-data figures with their dates). It records why you own a company in your own words and the numbers that must stay true. Then it re-tests those numbers every night at 23:30 UTC and emails you the first night one breaks. When nothing breaks, you hear nothing.
- Who is ValueScreener for?
- ValueScreener is for people who pick their own stocks and hold them for years, researching three to ten companies a month. It is not for traders or anyone who wants the software to decide for them, as there is no buy, hold or sell recommendation, no verdict word, and no fair value or price target from ValueScreener on any company.
- Is there a free plan?
- Yes: Curious is free and keeps your own work, watchlist and saved screens with their export. A new account starts with 30 days of Professional free and with no card (one trial per person). When your free days end, the account becomes Curious unless you choose a paid plan. Also free with no account: the company catalogue, every company page, investor tests, rule test, calculators and academy.
- Do I need an accounting background?
- No. Every score opens into the tests behind it, and every sourced figure into the statement it came from. You do need to be willing to read a balance sheet, and the academy starts from the beginning.
- Which plan is for me?
- Start with the trial: every step, free, for 30 days. Then keep the plan for the steps you used: finding is Curious, researching a company and running a portfolio are Serious, written theses re-tested nightly are Professional.
