Overview
Zapp combines a full shielded Zcash wallet with peer-to-peer end-to-end encrypted messaging in a single app. All code runs on your device; there are no servers, no accounts, and no sign-up required. Your chat identity and wallet are both derived from a single seed phrase generated only on your device.
The app lets you send shielded ZEC to contacts inside conversations, swap between ZEC and USDC through NEAR Intents without an exchange account, and pay shops by scanning their payment code. The conversion runs through a wallet created for that single order, so nothing ties the payout back to your balance or history.
Buy ZEC peer-to-peer by paying a matched merchant in your local currency on the payment app you already use. Cash out the same way through verified peers on P2P.me (UPI, PIX, QRIS, Mercado Pago, Pago Móvil) or through Peer on Revolut, Zelle, Chime or Monzo. No KYC on any of it, and every order runs through a fresh wallet.
The wallet is built on Zodl, the open-source Zcash wallet from the protocol's original developers. All code is public under AGPL-3.0: the Android app, iOS app, and peer-to-peer messaging SDK are auditable on GitHub.

- Zapp is a mobile app that combines a full Zcash wallet with peer-to-peer encrypted chat. There is no sign-up and no phone number; your chat identity is derived from your wallet. You can message contacts, pay them directly inside the conversation, share photos and location, swap between ZEC and USDC, buy ZEC by paying a merchant in local currency, pay shops from your shielded balance, and cash out to local currency with no KYC.
- Is Zapp free to use?
- Yes. The app is free and there is no account to create. You pay the normal Zcash network fees when sending transactions, and the third-party protocols behind swaps, the onramp, and the offramp apply their own rates and fees.
- Do I need a phone number or email to sign up?
- No. There is no sign-up at all. Zapp asks for no phone number, email, or username. Your chat identity is derived from your wallet, entirely on your device.
- Are my messages and funds private?
- Yes to both. Messages are end-to-end encrypted and exchanged directly between devices over Holepunch with no messaging server. Your funds are non-custodial: your keys are generated and stored only on your device and we cannot access or move them.
- Is Zapp open source?
- Yes, entirely. The Android app, the iOS app, the peer-to-peer messaging SDK, and this website are all public on GitHub under AGPL-3.0. That licence requires anyone who ships a modified version to publish their changes too.
