A free Android budgeting app with optional paid bank sync, featuring manual budgeting and transaction categorization with no ads or data selling.
Overview

BudgetKind is a budgeting app available on Android through Google Play in the US. The core app is free and stays on your device, allowing manual account management and statement imports without requiring an account. The optional Plus subscription ($39.99/year or $4.99/month) adds read-only bank sync through Plaid with a 14-day free trial.
The app features automatic transaction categorization, budget tracking by category, bills and subscription detection, leak detection for spending patterns, savings goals, and net worth tracking. It supports multiple import formats (CSV, Excel, PDF, OFX, QIF) and imports from other budgeting apps like Mint, Monarch, YNAB and Rocket Money.
BudgetKind is paid for by subscriptions, not by ads or data sales. Bank connections are read-only through Plaid and encrypted. A web version is coming, with a native iPhone app planned afterward.

Q&A
- How is BudgetKind different from Monarch, YNAB or Copilot?
- BudgetKind has a free plan that keeps working with no account, is available on Android now with a web version coming, and Plus costs $39.99 a year, less than half what those apps charge. See the comparison page for details and sources.
- Can I import my data from Mint?
- Yes. If you saved Mint's transactions file before it closed, BudgetKind can import it. You can also import exports from Rocket Money, Monarch or YNAB, or import statements directly from your bank in CSV, Excel, PDF, OFX or QIF formats.
- Is it safe to connect my bank?
- Banks connect through Plaid with read-only access. You sign in on your bank's own page or in Plaid's secure window; BudgetKind never sees your bank password. Access is read-only so BudgetKind can see balances and transactions but cannot move money. Your bank connection is encrypted on servers and never stored in the app.
- What does Plus cost and how does the free trial work?
- Plus costs $4.99/month, $11.99/quarter, or $39.99/year. New subscribers get a 14-day free trial. You're billed through Google Play and can cancel anytime without being charged if you cancel before the trial ends.
- Is there a limit on how many banks I can connect?
- Yes. One BudgetKind account can have up to 10 connected banks. Each bank can include several accounts (checking, savings and cards), so most people never get close. If you reach the limit, the app says “You’ve connected 10 banks, the most one BudgetKind account can have.” Disconnect a bank you no longer use (open one of its accounts and tap Disconnect), then add the new one. You can always follow more accounts by hand or with statement imports.
